Soil to use for water plants and bog plants is clay soil, is a compact and heavy soil that do not float when is fully submerged in the water.
Is not common find it in the garden center.
If the pot with the plant will be placed in the border of the pond not fully submerged is possible mix clay soil with peat, half part of each.
Fertilization should be done crumbling some pondtabbs and mix with the ready soil, or inserting one tab in the middle of the pot ready with the soil, making a hole in the soil using one finger, insert the pondtabbs inside the hole and cover with soil.
You need one pondtabbs each 3 liters of soil.
If you use common plastic pot with holes on the bottom is enough put ready soil inside the pot.
If you use perforated pots is best insert newsprint before insert soil to avoid soil spill outside the pot, newsprint will dissolve when soil will be compacted enough.
